SVP Arizona Partner Profiles
Dan Rigby
As the owner of ECA Companies, Dan Rigby was busy creating incentive programs for executives across the country. Then he read an article about Social Venture Partners Arizona and it clicked. "I had been fortunate in my work. It was challenging work and economically gratifying, but not soul fulfilling. The balance was off and I was searching for something with deeper meaning. That is what I found in SVPAZ." Dan has been involved with SVP for over five years. He has served on three investment committees, has been on the reinvestment committee for three years, on the board for four years, and is currently a member of the executive committee. He is enjoying his work on the organizational development committee and perhaps most importantly, Dan has been a lead partner for five years with Teen Lifeline. "The most satisfying part of SVP has been participating in the organization as it has gained traction. It is a compelling idea and it has been gratifying to be a part of its growth and development over the last five years." In his free time, Dan is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fly fishing in the mountains of Colorado.
Matt Donovan
Matt has been an active member of SVPAZ for the last year and initially got involved when friends and colleagues around him began talking to him about the organization. He started his involvement by attending informal social events and getting to know some of the partners. He has since attended investment committee meetings and a focus group on governance. He is a member of the Special Events and Education Committee and is most proud of his son’s involvement in SVP Teens. "The best thing about SVPAZ is the idea. It’s putting your money where your mouth is but it is also getting your hands dirty. People have so more to offer than just money. It is the time and commitment to making a difference in the community that makes SVP special." Matt is particularly interested in helping corporations become better citizens and in developing their philanthropic programs. At SVP, Matt is looking forward to becoming more involved and getting to know more of the partners. "My hope is that in some way, I can help SVPAZ attain sustainability and critical mass and become a fixture in the Arizona philanthropic community." Matt loves to read, especially books on World War II, and enjoys the Arizona outdoors with his three children.
Kahryn Nix Kahryn first heard about SVP Arizona while serving as a member of the Phoenix Youth at Risk board. Several friends were involved with SVP and they encouraged her to join. She has served on the Phoenix Youth at Risk board for nine years and joined SVPAZ three years ago. Since joining SVPAZ, she has served on the board and has recruited three other partners with more on the way. Her involvement on the organizational development committee has been most interesting to her because she has learned so much about SVP. She hopes to use that knowledge to build SVP into a philanthropic leader in Arizona. She also looks forward to making sure that the recommendations of the organizational development committee are implemented and that the organization continues to move forward. Kahryn is most passionate about her grandchildren and one of them is currently a member of SVP teens. "I love the teen program the most! To see these kids work so hard to raise money and then give it all away is amazing. Going on site visits is life changing for some of them and it’s good for them to see how the other half lives." Kahryn’s favorite part of SVPAZ is the other partners. "The thing I like best about SVP is the great people I work with. They are passionate business people, but they also have huge hearts and thrive on giving back to the community."
